Repent and believe in the gospel. – Mark 1:14-20
After John the Baptist’s arrest, Jesus begins His public ministry in Galilee, proclaiming, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and follow Jesus.” As He walks by the Sea of Galilee, He calls Simon, Andrew, James, and John, inviting them to leave their nets and become fishers of men.
When Jesus was baptised he saw the Spirit of God coming to rest on him. – Matthew 3:13-17
Jesus comes to the Jordan River to be baptised by John, humbly identifying Himself with sinners though He is without sin. As He rises from the water, the heavens open, the Holy Spirit descends upon Him like a dove, and the Father’s voice declares, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

Jesus returns to Nazareth filled with the power of the Holy Spirit and enters the synagogue on the Sabbath. Reading from the prophet Isaiah, He proclaims, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me” and announces, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
