Matthew 18:12-14

Explanation

Seek the Lost: Jesus teaches that the Father’s heart never gives up on anyone. He uses the image of a shepherd who leaves ninety-nine sheep to search for the one that is lost. God’s love burns with a relentless desire to save every soul, especially those who are vulnerable or wounded.

Jesus asks, “If a man has a hundred sheep, and one goes astray, does he not leave the ninety-nine to seek the one that is lost?” He answers, “It is not the will of your Father in heaven that even one of these little ones should perish.” This shows God’s immense love and care for each individual.

Seek the Lost reveals God’s unyielding pursuit of every soul. He seeks, calls, and rescues because He wills that none should be lost. This is the heart of the Father, His desire for every soul to be saved.

Reflection

Seek the Lost: Jesus invites us to join His mission, reaching out to those who feel forgotten, discouraged, or distant from faith. We live this by showing patience, mercy, and genuine care in our daily relationships. Every act of compassion, no matter how small, reflects God’s boundless love. Today, ask yourself: Who needs to be reminded they are not alone?

This Gospel reveals God’s deep compassion for each person, especially the vulnerable and those who have strayed. We are called to share in His desire that not one should perish. We are to imitate the Good Shepherd, actively seeking and caring for those who are lost, marginalised, or struggling in our communities.

To live Seek the Lost means choosing compassion over judgment, patience over frustration. It challenges us to reach out to the lonely, the wounded, or those far from faith. Christ calls us to love with His persistence and tenderness, offering hope to those who need it most.

Meditation

  • Breathe slowly and imagine Jesus, the Good Shepherd, drawing near. Hear Him call your name with gentleness and love, letting His voice reassure you: “You are precious to Me.” Whisper, “Lord, find me when I wander,” and rest in the security of His embrace, knowing He rejoices over you.
  • Picture the Good Shepherd leaving the ninety-nine to seek the one lost sheep. Let His light surround the places in your heart that feel lost or heavy. Pray, “Jesus, guide my heart to seek the lost with Your compassion,” and feel His tender love calling you back to His heart.
  • Reflect on how Jesus actively seeks you with love. Let His words echo in your heart: “Not one should perish.” Ask Him to fill you with His compassion, that you may actively reach out to those who feel lost or distant from Him. Pray for the grace to imitate His love in your daily life.
  • Rest in the embrace of Jesus, the Good Shepherd. Ask Him to open your eyes to the lost and vulnerable around you. Pray, “Lord, carry me back to Your heart and help me reflect Your love to others,” knowing that He has called you to be His hands and feet in the world.

Jesus, Shepherd of my heart, lead me home.
