Luke 18:35-43

Explanation

As Jesus enters Jericho, He notices Zacchaeus, a wealthy chief tax collector who is despised by the crowd. Despite Zacchaeus’s low stature, Jesus calls him by name, inviting Himself to his house. The encounter leads to Zacchaeus’s conversion and restitution, as he recognises his need for redemption. Jesus declares, “The Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost,” revealing His mission to reach out to those who are rejected and broken. This act of grace shows that no one is beyond God’s mercy, and through seeking the lost, Jesus reaches into every wounded heart, offering hope and transformation to those who are willing to receive it.

Reflection

Jesus continues to seek and save us in our struggles, sins, and confusion, inviting us to welcome Him with openness, just as Zacchaeus did. When we let Christ in, true transformation begins, healing, generosity, and renewal. His mission of seeking the lost calls us to approach others with compassion, especially those who feel excluded or unworthy. As followers of Christ, we are called not only to welcome the marginalised but also to actively seek and save the lost, extending mercy and offering an invitation to conversion. This requires us to embrace God’s heart for the broken, whether by spending time with someone who is hurting or offering forgiveness to someone who has fallen. Today, live the focus phrase by allowing Jesus to shape your decisions, relationships, and priorities, and become a partner in His redemptive work.

Questions for Reflection

  • Who in my life feels “lost” or far from God, and how can I show them Jesus’ love?
  • Do I recognise my own need for Jesus’ seeking love and mercy?
  • Do I sometimes judge others, hindering my ability to show them Christ’s love?
  • What concrete step of repentance or generosity can I take this week?
Seeking the Lost

Look for one person today whom you can reach out to, share a kind word, a prayer, or simple presence and remember you are seeking the lost with Christ. Reach out with kindness, remembering that the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.

Meditation

  • Lord Jesus, I come before You now, aware of Your deep love.
  • Hear Him call your name, just as He calls Zacchaeus.
  • Let His gaze soften you, revealing areas needing forgiveness.
  • Ask, Jesus give me boldness and compassion to reach out to others who need You.

Lord, help me to seek and save the lost.
