Luke 22:24-30

Explanation

During the Last Supper, the disciples argue about who is greatest among them, but Jesus redefines greatness through humble service. He explains that in His Kingdom of Service, true leadership means becoming like the youngest and the one who serves. Unlike worldly rulers who dominate, His followers lead by love, sacrifice, and care for others. Jesus Himself stands among them as one who serves, modelling servant leadership that uplifts rather than controls. Because the disciples remain faithful to Him in His trials, He promises them a share in His Kingdom, where they will dine at His table and share in His mission. In this Kingdom of Service, greatness is measured not by power or status, but by the willingness to serve with humility and love.

Reflection

Jesus invites us to live daily in His Kingdom of Service, where greatness is measured not by power or recognition but by love expressed through humble action. In our families, workplaces, and communities, we serve God by quietly helping others, with patience, compassion, forgiveness, and generosity. Servant leadership challenges our natural desire for control and status, calling us instead to use our gifts to lift others up rather than advance ourselves.

When we choose humility over ambition and kindness over competition, we reflect Christ’s reign of love. Every act of service, especially those done without seeking praise, participates in His royal mission. In this Kingdom of Service, to lead is to love, to serve is to reign, and to follow Christ is to bring His transforming grace into the world through humble, faithful care for others.

Questions for Reflection

  • Where do I seek recognition or status instead of living in the Kingdom of Service by humbly serving others?
  • How can I use my position, talents, or influence to lift others up rather than control or outshine them?
  • What small act of love can I offer today, quietly and without expecting anything in return?
  • In my family, work, or community, how can I practice servant leadership and reflect Christ’s example of humble service?
Kingdom of Service

Practice servant leadership by performing one hidden act of service today, something no one will notice or thank you for and offer it to Christ. Welcome the Kingdom of Service into your heart.

Meditation

  • Close your eyes and breathe slowly. Picture the Holy Family on the road to Egypt, Mary holding the Child, Joseph leading with quiet strength, trusting God’s Providence in the darkness. Ask for the grace to follow God’s guidance even when the path feels uncertain.
  • Whisper, “Lord, guide my steps.” Offer your fears and plans to Him with trust. Breathe deeply and rest in the peace of knowing that God’s plan always protects and leads toward life.
  • Visualise the desert night, vast, silent, and starlit. See St. Joseph leading the donkey, his heart steady in faith. Ask for the same courage to move forward when life shifts unexpectedly or fear surrounds you.
  • In stillness, invite Jesus into your anxieties. Ask Him to calm your heart and teach you to listen for His voice. Rest in silence, confident that He never abandons those who walk trusting God’s Providence.

Lord, make me a servant of Your love.
