Luke 7:11-17

Explanation

As Jesus approaches the town of Nain, He encounters a funeral procession for the only son of a widow. Moved with deep compassion, He stops the procession, touches the coffin, and says, “Young man, I say to you, arise!” Immediately, the young man sits up and begins to speak, and Jesus restores him to his mother. This moment reveals Christ’s divine power over death and His tender mercy toward human suffering. In raising the widow’s son, Jesus not only restores life and dignity but also proclaims that God’s compassion conquers death and despair. Through this miracle, He invites all believers to rise from spiritual death into new life, trusting in His power to heal, restore, and renew.

Reflection

When I face grief, fear, or hopelessness, Jesus invites me to rise to new life, fully and completely. His compassion reaches into my brokenness, and His divine power restores what feels lost or dead within me. No sorrow is too deep for His mercy, and no loss is beyond His reach. Like the young man in Nain, I hear Jesus’ voice calling, “Rise, O believer,” as He touches what has grown cold in me, hope, faith, and love and brings it back to life. This Gospel reminds me to trust His healing power and to believe that Christ conquers even death itself. Today, I choose to open my heart, to live awake to His presence, and to walk in the hope of His resurrection.

Questions for Reflection

  • What area of my life needs resurrection hope, relationship, purpose?
  • Do I believe that Christ can bring new life even in hopeless situations?
  • How does the story of the widow’s son strengthen my faith in Jesus’ power and compassion?
  • Am I bringing my sorrows and losses to Christ, trusting in His ability to bring new life?
Jesus-Raises-the-Young-Man
