Luke-6-12_19

Explanation

Jesus spends the entire night in prayer, abiding in deep communion with the Father before choosing the twelve apostles. From this place of intimacy and discernment, He calls twelve ordinary men to share in His mission, to be with Him, to preach, and to serve. His example shows that every true calling begins in prayer and that service flows from a heart united with God. By grounding His decisions in prayer, Jesus reveals that discerning God’s will is not an impulsive act but a response born from relationship with the Father. Those whom He chooses are “chosen to serve,” reminding us that mission and ministry always spring from prayerful communion with God.

Reflection

Too often I seek direction without first turning to prayer. Yet Jesus, even as the Son of God, spends the night in prayer before choosing His apostles, showing me that every decision and mission must begin in communion with the Father. When I pause, listen, and pray, my choices align with God’s will, not my impulses. Through baptism and the gifts I’ve received, I too am “chosen to serve.” My mission unfolds not only in great acts but also in the quiet offering of time, attention, and kindness. Prayer grounds my service, it roots my actions in God’s heart so that what I do flows from His purpose, not my own.

Questions for Reflection

  • How much time do I dedicate to prayer, especially when facing important decisions?
  • How can I deepen my prayer life so I remain ready for my call?
  • How can I prioritize silent prayer before serving or mentoring?
  • How can I cultivate a deeper habit of prayerful discernment in my life?

  • Imagine Jesus praying, then calling you by name: “You are chosen.”
  • Whisper: “Lord, teach me to seek You before I act.”
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you in prayerful discernment
  • Ask: “Help me to hear Your call clearly and respond faithfully.”
