Mark 8:14-21 - Eyes of Faith

Seeing with the Eyes of Faith

Jesus invites us to see life through the Eyes of Faith, not through worry or worldly thinking. When the disciples focus on having only one loaf of bread, they miss His spiritual message. With patience, Jesus reminds them of the miracles of the loaves to renew their trust in His care. He warns against the leaven of the Pharisees and Herod, symbolising pride, hypocrisy, and selfish ambition. Therefore, seeing with the Eyes of Faith means guarding our hearts from doubt and letting God’s truth shape our inner life. As we trust more deeply in His presence, He opens our hearts to recognise quiet miracles happening all around us.

Living with the Eyes of Faith

Jesus calls us to see every moment through the Eyes of Faith, trusting His care even when our resources feel small. Like the disciples, we can worry about “not having enough” and forget God’s past faithfulness. Yet, when we view life with spiritual eyes, we discover that Christ Himself is the bread that truly satisfies. Moreover, small compromises or pride can quietly weaken our hearts, so we guard them through prayer, Scripture, and the sacraments. Living with the Eyes of Faith also means letting God reshape our inner life, not just our outward actions. Through grace, we learn to forgive, love, and live with honesty, trusting that His presence provides more than we could ever ask.

Reflecting with the Eyes of Faith

  • What material worry most distracts me from hearing Jesus’ voice and trusting His loving care today?
  • How has God provided for me in the past when I felt at my limit, and how does this strengthen my trust now?
  • What hidden “leaven” quietly influences my thoughts or actions, and how can I Guard My Heart with the Eyes of Faith?
  • Where do my thoughts or words fall short of Christ’s call, and how do I invite God’s grace into these daily struggles?
Eyes of Faith

Today, refuse to complain about a lack of resources and instead use your Eyes of Faith to notice how God provides. Then, watch one attitude, thought, or word and ask Christ to help you Guard Your Heart and live the Heart of the Law with love and truth.

Guided Prayer with the Eyes of Faith

  • Sit in silence and acknowledge Jesus, the one true loaf, present with you now through the Eyes of Faith. Slowly surrender your worries into His hands.
  • Lord Jesus, I pause before you. Search my heart, cleanse me of pride and fear, and strengthen my trust in your faithful love.
  • Holy Spirit, clear the leaven of doubt from my mind. Teach me to love as Jesus loves and to live the Heart of the Law.
  • Lord, I offer you my thoughts, words, and hidden motives. Renew my mind so that I see every situation with the Eyes of Faith.

Lord, help me to see; Lord, help me to understand.
